Holiday Lights-3.jpg

We will spend a couple of hours photographing holiday light displays around the Lino Lakes area. During the photowalk, I will spend time helping participants with camera settings, focusing at night, creative camera effects such as zooming with long exposures, and shallow depth of field.  We will also work with some of the challenges such as dealing with movement, and sequenced light displays.

We plan to be out for about 2 hours so please dress appropriately for the weather.  All levels of experience are welcome.

You will need to bring a camera that allows for manual camera settings, a lens that can range in focal length from 35mm to 105mm, and a tripod.

Whether you are a crafter, online seller, or just someone who enjoys still life photography, this class will help you improve your photos.

Oil Lamp-1.jpg

Creating an interesting still life photo does not require a lot of expensive gear or a fancy studio.  You can create some amazing photos in your house using simple lighting and staging.  During this class, Don will show you how to select a stage, design a set, arrange lighting, determine the proper camera angle, and set your exposure.  Would you believe that the image of the oil lamp above was taken using only window light?  It was!  The secrets are understanding how to compliment your subject with supporting "actors," and managing the shadows.

This class will take place in a classroom environment with plenty of hands on activity.  All levels of experience are welcome.

You will need to bring a camera that allows for manual camera settings, a lens that can range in focal length from 35mm to 105mm, and a tripod.  Optionally, bring along some of your own items to photograph.  We will also have subjects for you to work with if you prefer.

Winter is a photographer's wonderland.  The low sun angle, clean air, and simplified scenes make for some great photo opportunities!

Icy Chain at Gooseberry Falls State Park

We will spend a couple of hours wandering around the park looking for interesting landscapes, wildlife, and anything else that catches our attention.  The great thing is that in the winter there is always something interesting to capture with our cameras.  Don will demonstrate how to get nice white winter scenes using whatever type of camera you may have.  In addition, he will provide guidance on composition, subject selection, and exposure.  All levels of experience are welcome.

We plan to be out for about 2 hours so please dress appropriately for the weather.  Chemical hand warmers are highly recommended.

You will need to bring a camera that allows for manual camera settings, a lens that can range in focal length from 35mm to 105mm, and a tripod.
