Details:
Years ago, I discovered Route 66 in Arizona. It was shortly after my brother's wedding in Las Vegas. Not being a "Vegas kind of guy," my wife and I rented a car and headed out to the Grand Canyon. Along the way, we rolled into Kingman AZ. This was our first taste of "The Mother Road." From there it was on to Williams before heading to our hotel near the entrance Grand Canyon National Park. I would make several return visits to Route 66 staying in some of the iconic hotels along the route. Each visit confirmed that this was a place that I needed to share with others.
Agenda:
Monday Afternoon:
We will begin with introductions, and review the agenda for the week. We will head out for dinner as a group. After dinner, we will spend some time doing a night shoot at the Wigwam Hotel.
Tuesday:
Saturday starts with an early morning photo shoot around Holbrook AZ. After the morning photo shoot we will check out of our hotel and then head off to Petrified Forest National Park where we will spend the majority of the day. Upon leaving the park, we will make a stop for sunset.
We will conclude the day with dinner in Winslow Arizona. After dinner, we will spend time working on and reviewing photos taken earlier in the day.
Wednesday:
Before breakfast, we will spend time walking around Winslow photographing the downtown area. But we won't be taking photos of "the corner" just yet. The light won't be right until after breakfast. After breakfast, we will return to "the corner" for a group shot. After the Group Shot, we will visit the ruins of the Two Guns Theme Park.
Our next stop will be Walnut Canyon National Monument. This stop features our longest (and a bit of a tough) hike down into the cliff dwellings. After Walnut Canyon, we will head over to Flagstaff for lunch.
After lunch, we will spend the remainder of the day making our way over to Williams AZ. We will spend time after dinner photographing some of the neon signs and old buildings in Williams.
Thursday:
After breakfast we will explore one of the longest stretches of the original Route 66 which will take us through Seligman, Peach Springs, and Hackberry before dropping us off in Kingman AZ.
After lunch in Kingman we will head over to Oatman AZ and then over to Needles CA where we will spend the night.
Friday:
We will meet for breakfast and then have a final image review before saying our good byes and heading out. For those wanting to visit Grand Canyon National Park, Williams is the perfect jumping off point.
